This week marks the release of our latest Fiction River volume, Fantastic Detectives, and I cant think of a better example of the kind of amazing cross-genre stories Fiction River specializes in than this volume.
Like fantasy and mystery? Weve got Kevin J. Andersons famous zombie detective, Dan Shamble; Dean Wesley Smiths superhero detective, Poker Boy; a dog detective; a cat detective (you know, for balance); and even a detective whos an egg (really, Im not just cracking jokes here).
Plus, fairies and ghosts and, well, youve really got to give this one a read.
But dont take my word for it.
Long and Short Reviews says: Fiction River: Fantastic Detectives is a great choice for anyone who loves it when genres are swirled together. Its nominally more heavily influenced by mystery conventions and tropes, but the science fiction and fantasy elements in it are almost as strong.
And Keith West of Amazing Stories says: Fiction River: Fantastic Detectives is a great read if you like to blend mystery with your fantasy. Check it out.
Im also happy to introduce the new Fiction River blog, written by WMGs Director of Sales and Marketing, Joy Wilson. Joy is a big fan of Fiction River (and not just because she works here), and asked if she could start writing about one of her favorite publications every week. Who am I to say no to that?
So, Ill keep my own blog short this week, because I really want you to give hers a read. Its fantastic. And be sure to check out her new blog on Thursday, the official release day for Fantastic Detectives.
But before I sign off, one quick mention of our on Kickstarter. The Print Fantastic Detectives Authors Package ($125 pledge) is still available. You get not only a one-year print subscription to Fiction River and a print copy of Fantastic Detectives, but you also get signed copies of Alden Bridge by Joe Cron, Afterburn by Karen L. Abrahamson, Blue Suede Darlin by Juliet Nordeen and The Bloodied Fang by Ryan M. Williams. There are lots of other great rewards still available, of course, as well as some fun videos to watch, so if you havent stopped by Kickstarter in a few days, nows a good time to check it out.
Happy reading!

Here we are, back at work after a weekend filled with (for me, at least) turkey, friends, family, an early Black Friday trip to the local outlet mall, Small Business Saturday shopping at the many fine shops we have locally, and purchasing a Christmas tree (It’s only three and a half weeks away!).
I believe I have single-handedly buoyed our economy.
And now, it’s Cyber Monday, that glorious day where employees nationwide ignore the piles of work left from a long holiday weekend and shop online instead.
Not me, of course <wink, wink>, but many of you. At least I hope so. Because we’ve got our own Cyber Monday promotion going on right here at WMG.
Today, and today only, if you purchase three WMG Publishing titles (including the Fiction River imprint) valued at $2.99 or more from any retailer, you will receive a free audiobook of your choosing.
And although it’s Cyber Monday, you don’t have to buy them online. Stick with tradition, if you prefer. All of our print titles listed at $9.99 and above are available for your local brick-and-mortar bookstore to order.
Here are the specifics:
1. Buy (or show us proof of order) three (3) WMG Publishing titles in any format, from any retailer, from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. PST on Monday, Dec. 2.[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”” height=”” background_color=”#efd99f” border_width=”1″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]Promotion extended to Noon PST on Tuesday, Dec. 3[/dropshadowbox]
2. Email a copy of your receipt to editor@wmgpublishing.com.
3. Check out the list of WMG titles available in audiobook so you can start thinking about which free audiobook you’d like. We’ll contact you once we have your proof of purchase for next steps.
That’s it. Simple, right?
So, happy shopping. And don’t forget to get in a little work between sales <g>. Your boss will be thankful you did.

Former journalist turned journalism teacher Larissa Johanssen moved back to her hometown to escape the violence she once covered on a national stage. Until that violence strikes her high school, her students. Now, she must help her students deal with the type of coverage that drove her to the breaking point. And she must revisit parts of her past she thought long buried—and separate truth from fiction to finally begin to heal.
[Rusch] is one of those very few writers whose style takes me right into the story—the words and pages disappear as the characters and their story swallows me whole….Rusch has style.

Boss dives derelict space vessels, for money, yes, but more for their historical value. So, when Boss uncovers the find of a lifetime, she enlists the best divers she can convince to help her pursue it—off the grid and under the Empire’s radar.
Boss’ discovery leads her and some of her team to the Room of Lost Souls. Boss remembers the Room. It haunts her. Her mother died there. Now, a client wants her to go back. She wants Boss to help her uncover the Room’s mysteries. But the truths she discovers might destroy everything Boss holds sacred.
Because the more they discover, the less they realize they know—and the more it will cost them all.
This is classic sci-fi, a well-told tale of dangerous exploration. The first-person narration makes the reader an eyewitness to the vast, silent realms of deep space, where even the smallest error will bring disaster. Compellingly human and technically absorbing, the suspense builds to fevered intensity, culminating in an explosive yet plausible conclusion.” —RT Book Reviews Top Pick
